How we check a listing

“ABN verified” on a Bizroots listing means one thing: the ABN was active on the Australian Business Register on the date shown beside it. Here is exactly what that covers, and what it does not.

What we check

  • The ABN exists and is active

    Before a listing can be paid for, we look the ABN up on ABN Lookup, the free public service run by the Australian Business Register. A cancelled or unknown ABN cannot be listed.

  • The business is based in Western Australia

    Bizroots covers WA only for now. If the register puts the ABN's main business location in another state, the listing stops there.

  • The legal name is the register's, not ours

    The name after “Registered as” is exactly what the register returned. Nobody types it: not us, not the business. If it is wrong, it has to be fixed at the register.

  • The check is repeated

    A daily job looks each live listing's ABN up again in the five weeks before it renews, and again for any listing still on the site that has not been looked up in 330 days. If the register shows the ABN cancelled, a person here reviews the listing. Nothing is removed automatically on the strength of a lookup.

What we do not check

  • That the person who signed up owns or runs the business. They agree to our terms that they do, and anyone can report a listing that isn't theirs.
  • Licences, registrations or qualifications. A licence number on a listing is labelled “supplied by the member” until a person here has checked it.
  • Insurance.
  • The quality of the work, prices, opening hours or service area. Those come from the business.
  • The trading name. It comes from the business, because the register's trading-name data has not been updated since 2012.

Check it yourself

Every verified listing links its ABN straight to that business’s page on ABN Lookup, so you don’t have to take our word for it. The date beside the badge is the day the register answered. Bizroots is not affiliated with the Australian Business Register.

Something wrong with a listing? Every listing page has a “This isn’t my business” link at the bottom, and a person reads every report.
